Alright so I'm watching the trailers and trying to wrap my head around some of this. I remember originally in the comics, he did design his own "web-shooters", so apparently they are going down that route this time rather than it just appearing out of his wrists like in the first? Other than that, I see no other real changes?
Timeline wise can anyone place it? My thoughts are after Spiderman 3? But I also heard rumors it's basically a revamp and its the start of a brand new timeline (ie It's the first movie)
Any ideas? input? Im just gauging whether or not to actually see it in theaters.

I assumed it was a complete reboot and thusly the first movie. Totally separate timeline than the previous movies.
Marvel loves to do that, I think I've heard about 5 total reboots of the Marvel Universe since I stopped reading Marvel comics in the 90s.

It's a reboot.

I can't think of even one. Marvel will go back and retcon things, but they've never done a full on reboot. When the Ultimate comics were son to be coming out, everyone THOUGHT there was going to be a reboot. But Marvel decided to run both universes concurrently.

Now DC on the other hand...they've rebooted the *edited* out of their universe.

Also, this looks quite good, I think. Andrew Garfield could act circles around Tobey Macguire. I'm also happy that they're using Gwen Stacy instead of Mary Jane as the love interest. I'm so sick of her. Having Spidey dump MJ was the best thing to happen to those comics in years. I'm just sad that he's no longer with Carlie! :(

Anyway, back to the movie. I do have a few complaints, however. I'm not totally sold on the costume redesign. Also, Lizard's face looks kinda stupid, but I've only seen stills. Here's hoping it looks better in action. Lastly, do we really need another *edited* origin story for Spider-man? Between the most recent movies and three different cartoon shows in the past several years, is there anyone out there who doesn't at least know the basics of Spider-Man's origins? Why not just do a short montage at the beginning to show us what's different in this universe from the other movie universe and then get to the spider-action?

What they really need to work on is Spidey/Ironman team-up movie so I can see Spider-Man in his badass Iron Spider outfit!

You're right, I stopped following Marvel comics a long time ago, but upon further research, everything that I heard about was just retcons and relaunches.

In any case, I am looking forward to this if for no other reason than seeing someone other than Tobey Maguire play Peter Parker.

Alright, so I'm still confused on some pieces from both. I believe in the originals it was a radioactive spider that bit him, and the Ultimate universe it was the genetically engineered one from Oscorp right?
So with this reboot, it would seem they're using the Ultimate setting, but not the timeline, or origin story, but in the 2002 movie they used the Ultimate origin? This whole movie blurring the universes thing is confusing :/
Take for example his webs. In the retcon (Ultimate) his webs are organically in his wrists, but the original he created the shooters and artificial compound used in them right? So it would seem they're mixing and matching as they please in the films :(
Am I wrong or have I just thoroughly confused myself lol

Just think of the movie as its own timeline, rather than as one of the specific comics made in to a film.

Good idea lol I guess I'm just digging for reasons not to like superhero movies, mainly based on the fact they shred comic storylines to pieces sometimes for the sake of taking years of comic story and condensing it into a 2 hour movie :/

A bit off topis, but whats this Mortal Kombat reboot crap I've seen O.o the trailer I saw for the first time, but it was from like 2010, looks cool, but the story is way jacked up.

It's no different than the way the X-Men films used elements from the Ultimate and 616 universes as well as adding their own elements.

And that trailer you watched has very little to do with the new MK movie other than it was directed by the same person. Basically, this dude decided he REALLY wanted to direct a new MK movie, so he makes this fake trailer and posts it on the internet for Warner Bros. to see. Warner Bros. says, "Hey, that's pretty neat. But no movie. Instead, we'll let you make a web-series. (with Tahmoh Penikett in it!)" So he makes the web series and it's pretty damned popular so now WB says, "Damn, guess we should make a movie." And now he's making a movie. Which will probably be somewhat different from both his trailer and web-series.

At least I hope so, I don't really need to see the exact same story over again...

Yeah I'm seeing that now, the web series is really cool, kinda iffy on some of the weird stuff (Like lobotomizing Raiden or the background on some of these characters, like Baraka going from plastic surgeon to kung-fu master O.o) But all in all I like the gritty real world meets mystic feel it has. Plus, how can you not like knowing the Lin Kuei clan is going to get their *edited* handed to them on a flaming platter compliments of the Shirai Ryu :D
