My prediction is we're gonna see gambling in TOR few months after release. Basically after the game has established itself and the success has been confirmed, they can start working on it. Since it is not overly complicated to do, they might give it a high priority.

They will never allow gambling in the game, they would have to change the ESRB Rating(insert other rating boards here) let alone that most governments dont allow online gambing or have extremely specific rules for it regardless it being for an ingame currency.

Well actually teen is all that is needed apparently because Final Fantasy XI has known gambling game around. There are tables in the first major hub city that all you to play a high low game for gil. Also there is a yearly lotto that if the right collection is had in your inventory you can when anything from gear (mostly aesthetic) to millions of ingame currency. Gambling in of itself is not enforced in the digital unless real money is used. For instance Mahjong arcade games have been around on NES for years were you have a pool of money that is bet to get into hirer games. Now sure that is solo but the same principal can be brought to an mmo. The only digital currency law in effect i believe is in China were it is illegal to exchange ingame, digital, or fictional properties, currency, or services for money (I am assuming because you would not be able to tax appropriately). But other then a persons/society moral standards gambling in the digital sense is no more illegal then playing poker at your house with chips that have no value.

That's exactly what I'm worried about, would hate to see that because of some stupid legislations, gambling is part of Star Wars.

This is the issue though, 12+ ( EU rating for WoW ) is the highest they will aim for, there is no way EA ( and maybe LucasArts ) will allow them to go over that because they will lose a huge amount of people that might play the game.

But because teen is 13+ I can see your worry but PEGI rates FFXI 12 even though it includes both animated violence and gambling. Also FFXIV is noted for sexual innuendos and still manages a 12 rating. While I do understand your concerns I do not think zero sum gambling with no repercussions would tip the game above those existing standards especially because the title it self survived retro rating of the movies. PG ratings even with the arm removal and implied murder of Luke's guardians. And PG-13 was given to episode III which was by far had the most graphic and alluded to more brutal and psychotic acts displayed in the non expand universe.

So I think it leaving the wall of crazy would more likely have to do with how to make it engaging because players that seek to make money this way will be the minority so what other draw would they have? Maybe they are thinking of tournaments or storys that can coincide with the gambling. It would be kinda hot if you could win a guild space station or cruiser in the game through this though. Or have a casino royal like story arc about it.

There are head being chopped off in this game, how could gambling be any worse? Besides, it's not with real money (you could argue that the time you put in is real and time=money). Yet unfortunately, you might be right :)...However, would they even put it on the wall of crazy if they knew they couldn't do it? I mean they are game developers. They know these kinds of things.

Heads are getting cut off in this game? How did I miss that? Are we talking droid heads or human/humanoids?

Oh, I just figured that was like in WoW, when you have to get the "head" of an enemy you just loot it, but the dead enemy on the ground still has their head.

I hope that we don't get to cut humanoid heads off bc I want my son to be able to watch me play.

We shall see.

That's right, it's part of the BH's story. You can't see it directly, but there are very illustrative sounds and you hold the head in your hands afterwards, allegedly.
