I have been going back and forth on if I want to level a tank alt and am having a tough time deciding. I am currently playing a guardian tank as my main and I enjoy the role but some of the class mechanics are bugging me as I get into the harder content.

Things I love about my Guardian:
Excellent cool downs- Warding call, saber ward, enure. Having 3 really extends a fight.
Damage mitigation - maybe I only group with great healers but my health bar rarely ever moves. Even with my companion only I can solo the belsavis heroic 2 with the scientist in columni gear.
Light saber - who doesn’t love them?
Single target threat seems ok, could be better or it could be my rotation. Hilt strike has a ridiculous cd.

Things I don’t like about my guardian:
Melee range only. Blade storm has a 10m range. Saber throw has a long cd. Everything else is 4m. Makes kiting impossible for me. Maybe I am just terrible at kiting.
Focus generation - if I can’t open a fight with saber throw and force leap I have a hard time maintaining enough focus.
AE damage/threat - ran Kaon under Siege last night and I had a rough time with all the swarming mobs and keeping agro.
Mobility - plays into the range issue but outside of force leap I feel the guardian has very few options

For those with high level shadow and vanguard tanks what is your list of love/hate for your class? If I level a tank alt to 50 it will most likely replace my Guardian so I would like input on Ops, flashpoints, and PvP.

Healers can give input on the easiest tanks to keep alive too.

I am finding that on high burst damage fights shadows do pretty well because of their cooldowns, what those are I am not exactly sure. Vanguards seemingly do very well with sustained damage mitigation. But guardians are maybe about the same as vanguards. But that is coming from almost exclusively a healing perspective, the closest I have to any sort of tank is my 40 guardian.

While I might just have had bad Shadow tanks an good Vanguard and Guardian tanks that I have grouped with, it seems, as DPS, that I more frequently will draw aggro when playing with Shadows than the other two tank classes.

In my experience (which is I played a Guardian in beta and leveled with Animus on Criax) the Vanguard seems to be hands down the best tank IMO. While I can't comment on Shadows, the Ranged tanks have it good in this game.
