"Tanking from afar" A introduction to trooper tanking

Theorycraft is only as useful as the number of people that can apply it. This requires that specific rules are set and can be duplicated by you the gamer. Many of the spreadsheets that analyze rotations, for example do not advise the reader that the results may be based upon a particular UI setup, or that the players involved use hotkeys, rather than mouse-clicks, both of which can dramatically influence the numbers/results.

A tank is a player whose role is to absorb damage and prevent others from being attacked

work in progress

I really hope you post something here eventually. I'm tanking as a Vanguard and I love doing it in PvE, but I'm concerned about what role I will play once I start getting into the PvP world, so I'm curious about what you have to say about that.

@Axefactor I'm a vanguard as well. I worry more about PvE than PvP. From the experiences I've had I can solo up to three players at once at my level or below, but I have to be quick and decisive as well as having to keep my distance and keeping up gear wise with my level. PvP has large numbers of variables so it can be chaotic and, therefor, next to impossible to theory-craft in my opinion.

PvE, however, I know I'm doing well with, but I'd like to do my very best. I've found some rotations that work for me, but I know they could be better. I'm eager to see what comes of this thread.

[urlhttp://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=123306=]Here's[/url] a great resource for figuring out gear stats.

It looks like the best take away is absorb rating > defense > shield rating > armor.
