MER Episode 30: Hutt on Hutt

MER Episode 30 - Hutt on Hutt

The past couple of weeks have been extremely exciting for Mos Eisley Radio. We’ve launched two new series, Podcasting in Basic and Open Bounty, and have received some fantastic response from the community thus far. That said, the podcast is still our bread and butter, and this week we sit down to discuss the news and hot topics from the past two weeks. Bioware has confirmed SWTOR’s presence at this year’s PAX East in Boston, and we dig into the possibility of a release date announcement, as well as other expectations for the conference. Also, story keeps rolling in with the addition of the 17th planet, Quesh. This triggers a discussion on planet size, and whether or not it actually matters to most players. Finally, we round everything out with the current status of playable species, and some comments from Lead Writer Daniel Erickson on why we haven’t seen more. Of course, we want you to give us your thoughts by joining the discussion of this episode on the FORUMS!

We want to offer a big thanks to R Y for taking the time to leave us reviews on iTunes.

Hey everyone! Last week we launched the first part of a new series on how we create the show, called “Podcasting in Basic”. The response so far has been great, and I’m looking forward to developing that series over the coming weeks and months.

Today, we’re even MORE jazzed to show you the pilot episode of the video project we have been developing over the past couple of months. The series is called “Open Bounty” and will feature the two of us, and possibly other guests, discussing various topics related to The Old Republic. This is more than your average video podcast, however, and we’re looking to YOU to help us shape the direction of the show. We’ve been carefully listening to the community’s call for more video content, and we expect Open Bounty to set a standard for SWTOR. Watch below.

In this pilot episode we take a close look at the Trooper and how this heavily armed class will fit into The Old Republic.

Podcasting In Basic: Creating an SWTOR Podcast

Podcasting In Basic

Easily the most common question we have received since posting the first episode of Mos Eisley Radio is “How do you make the podcast?” From deciding which gear is best to planning each individual show, a lot of effort has gone into crafting the final product that goes out every couple of weeks. We’ve been podcasting in some form or another since 2007, and in that time the equipment and methods have changed drastically. I can still remember rushing out to buy my first real microphone and interface, then struggling through the process of recording everyone and making the show sound like something worth listening to.

That’s the thing…we’ve had those experiences, and we felt like now was the time to share our knowledge of podcasting with fansites and guilds who are looking to start their own. Today we’re very excited to announce a new series dedicated specifically to starting your first TOR podcast, called “Podcasting in Basic”. Over the next few weeks and months we’ll be releasing info on everything from microphone choice to editing audio to getting a show listed in iTunes. For those of you not interested in creating a show, we hope this will be, at the very least, an interesting look at the inner-workings of Mos Eisley Radio. However for the folks looking to start a podcast dedicated to SWTOR (or any other topic, for that matter), we hope this will be a go-to resource.

For the first installment, we’ve put together a video overview that covers the basics of the MER podcasting rig. This is just a high-level look at the way the show is recorded, and you can expect much more detail in coming posts.

We also want to note that all of these posts will be available for syndication through the TOR Syndicate.

MER Episode 29: Forum Assault

MER Episode 29 - Forum Assault

Happy TOR Year! Outside of some catastrophic delay to 2012, in mere months it’s very likely that we’ll each be rolling our very first toons in The Old Republic. We start the year off right by diving into some questions from listeners about servers, advanced classes, the official forums, and even the lore-heavy world of lightsaber crystals.

The advantages of PVP versus PVE servers were laid out right alongside the decision we would have to make at level 10 if the advanced class choices remain permanent. Based on replies from questions sent out via Twitter, we also take a hard look at the state of the official forums and why most of our listeners tend to avoid them. While we didn’t have it in time for the official show, be sure to check the notes below for an official word from the Senior Online Community Manager, Stephen Reid. The podcast is rounded out this week with some observations about lightsaber crystals and whether or not Jedi or Sith players should be able to choose any color of the rainbow. As always, we would love for you to join the discussion of this episode on the FORUMS

We want to offer a big thanks to Solitare1112 and Morphose X for taking the time to leave us reviews on iTunes.

That’s why we try to ensure there are a variety of places a fan can visit or keep track of – like Facebook and Twitter – so they can keep up to date with the game. With such an active pre-launch community the forums are very busy, but we’re working hard to make them an informative and useful place to visit for those who want to really immerse themselves in the community.”

MER Episode 28: Speaking Massively

MER Episode 28 - Speaking Massively

Publishing a podcast two weeks in a row? Unprecedented! But given the holiday spirit (and the finale of Brooks’ collegiate career), it seemed fitting to put out a brand new episode. This week we’re joined by the SWTOR Editor over at Massively, Larry Everett. He’s been following The Old Republic just as long as we have (most of you should be familiar with his “Hyperspace Beacon” column), and for some reason it took us this long to have him as a guest.

Of course, this week was also saw the lifting of the embargo on information regarding the Jedi Knight, Consular, and the Jedi homeworld of Tython, dubbed Jedi Immersion day, that a few members of the press were shown back in November. Keeping with our recent trend, we used some of the bigger topics as basis for discussion about the current state of SWTOR and what the new info means for folks following the game. For some of the finer details, we’ve added links below. Amidst the new Jedi info we also cover everything from the control schemes used for DC Universe Online to the Sidekicking system in City of Heroes. Needless to say, we wandered a bit, but we think you’ll love the discussion Don’t forget to join us on the forums as well to give us your thoughts!

We want to offer a big thanks to Publius Varrus, Sergio Romero, and TheOutlandr for taking the time to leave us reviews on iTunes.
